about

Frustrated at the difficulty of communicating with the Wintermute AI, Captain Marz headed for the holodeck. The White Star was currently crossing The Abyss, and the crew were powerless to intervene. Wintermute had been quiet for several hours, save for the occasional status update, and all nav systems were still locked on the other side of The Abyss.

Captain Marz decided the only option was a plank notes safari. Firing up the holodeck, he dialled up Saturn (his favourite planet in the Sol System) for inspiration. Taking a big drag of the Rift Valley cactus extract that he saved for emergencies, he focused his mind on how to outwit the AI and regain control of the ship. It occurred to him that he hadn't seen Manta or Loki for several hours, but just then the peyote kicked in and he found himself far way in a dream within a dream, skimming through the icy fragments of Saturn's outer ringlets. This stuff was the bomb.
